CWH Museum on Canada Day

2017-07-01 On Canada Day we rode from Sudbury to Burlington, ON in time to unpack and head out to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum near Hamilton. There was a planned event that would have the famous Lancaster do a fly-past in Ottawa for Canada Day. My hope was to arrive at the Museum in time to see the Lancaster return and land. We were in luck as I got photos of the Lancaster and B25 Mitchell roaring into the museum taxiway. Just in time to get put away in the museum hangar before the thunderstorm dumped a deluge of rain.
In this album called CWH_Museum_Canada-Day are some photos of some aircraft in the vast collection, although not much time was left in the day.
Also included in the album are some photos of our visit earlier in the week to the Bomber Command Museum in Nanton, AB on our way up to Calgary.

Canada150 Motorcycle Trip-2

2017-06-25 This is Part-2 of our cross-country motorcyle trip.
This inline album covers the leg going from Calgary-AB to Hamilton (Burlington), ON.
Here again the photos on the road were by Kathy.

This leg includes overnight stops at Swift Current-SK, then Brandon-MB, followed by a very long ride day that ended in long lines of road construction coming into Dryden-ON. Due to forecasts of rain and possible thunderstorms, the next day was a long haul to Wawa, ON. The rain did catch up to us before Wawa but luckily it wasn’t too heavy.
However, for the next two days the rain was on and off, agin with warnings about thunderstorms.
So we did two short hops to Sault-St-Marie, ON one day, then Sudbury the next. Leaving Sudbury we had no rain but fog rolled in and forecasts again were for intermittent rain so the gear stayed on. In the fog and rain the all-weather gear worked great, but as we approached Toronto the sun came out and temps went from +20C to +30C as we navigated the 400-401-QEW.
In the middle of it we got off the highway to switch out of the rain gear. Good thing too as the 401 was a mad-house. Six or more lanes going 110kmh one minute, then dead stop the next, and cars passing all around like a game of hop-scotch.
Finally at the BW Burlington we unpacked and headed out to the CWH Museum near Hamilton.
More about that in the next post since it will have its own album.

Colorado MC Trip 2017

2017-06-19 This is Part-1 if a set of photo albums showing our cross-country motorcyle trip this summer. Our Harley was shipped by truck to the Mile-High HD dealership in Aurora (Denver) Colorado. We flew to Denver and stayed at the Comfort Inn right next door to the dealership. Up early Monday morning I looked out at the lot, anxiously waiting for 08:30 to get my Harley back. After re-packing the bike, we set off onto various Interstate highways to make our first night on the road at the BW in Rock Springs, WY.
This album Colorado_MC_Trip-2017 shows photos from the first part of our trip from Aurora, CO. The overnight stops were at Rock Springs, WY then Jackson, WY then Gardiner, MT then Kalispell, MT and finally to Calgary, AB.
Kathy took pictures while we rode so they are mixed in the set. My photos also include visits to the Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks.
The Part-2 album will cover the next leg from Calgary, AB back to Cornwall, PEI.

Do You like Lichens?

2016-10-04 Well I knew a bit about Lichens, have seen them growing on rocks and trees. So when Kathy said we were going on a Nature Walk to learn about Lichens, I figured it was a good time to bring out my Macro lens.
Our expert Guide was Frances Anderson who told us everything we wanted to know about Lichens, and then some.
Thanks to Nature PEI for putting on this event. My Nikon 100mm F4 lens on the D610 was supplemented by an external SB-700 flash for work on the woods near Brookvale PEI.
